The Guyana Economic Development Trust is a fiscally sponsored project of The Social Good Fund. Through fiscal sponsorship, Social Good promotes and cultivates projects that positively impact and develop local communities. Social Good, a U.S. 501(c)(3) nonprofit, works to help others, like The Trust, start philanthropic efforts by enabling them to receive financial support and by enabling tax deductibility for donors providing that support. The University of Guyana (UG) opened its doors in 1963 with only 164 students. Since then it has graduated many thousands who have gone on to successful careers in Guyana, the Caribbean and the world. As Guyana’s sole national higher education institution, UG operates under the assumption that all people are entitled to a higher education. With more than 60 undergraduate and graduate programs, the University of Guyana is a force for education, enterprise, and research throughout the Caribbean.
The University of Guyana School of Entrepreneurship and Business Innovation (SEBI)'s simple mission is to educate and develop within students the skills needed to become innovative managers and entrepreneurial leaders. SEBI offers undergraduate and Master’s programs as well as short, and professional courses designed to fill skill gaps with entrepreneurs, business professionals, and government employees. SEBI expects that with the skills and competencies learned through its programs, students will contribute to the social vibrancy and economic advancement of Guyana.
Formed in 1977, the Institute of Applied Science and Technology (IAST) is an industrial research organization with the mission of developing and adapting technology to be applied to Guyana’s rich natural resources sectors. In addition, to ensure that Guyana’s natural resources are available for generations to come, the IAST offers a variety of environmental monitoring services including water purity, heavy metal leaching, and soil toxicity testing that utilize state of the art equipment and processes.
